Originally, Fitzgerald was going to title the novel "Trimalchio," based on an ancient satire of a man called Trimalchio who dresses up to be rich. The characters of Gatsby and Trimalchio are similar, because they both came from humble origins and tried to disguise these origins by leading a lavish lifestyle.

Make sure your study guide is filled out completely by the time you walk in the door on Monday, 4/22. If you were not in class on Friday, 4/19, Make sure you complete Vocabulary lesson #7. There are several of you that have not turned in their Persuasive Synthesis Essays--they are several days overdue. Today, Wednesday, 3/6 is the last day to turn them into TURNITIN.com.

As a result the deadline for our Persuasive Value Synthesis essay has been delayed until Thursday, 2/28. I expect that everyone is diligently working on this essay in and outside of school. The deadline is Thursday, 2/28/2019 by midnight in TURNITIN.com. It will be considered past due and there will be a point penalty (-5) for each school day only not turned in. and I will only accept them 5 days past due date otherwise it will be considered an incomplete. On Friday, 3/1 we will do Lesson 3 in our Vocabulary Book. Weekend homework: Chapters 18 and 19 in Code Breakers. be prepared to have packet filled out by Monday, 3/4. Due to the snow days and inclement weather the due dates for the outline and final paper are extended.
I do not have firm dates yet. Let's see how far we get tomorrow, 2/8/2019-- on pulling the 8 CD's and getting our outlines in good order. My hope would be the outlines could be finished tomorrow, 2/7/2019. [The Key Element: 8 CD's organized]. And the final paper the following Friday, 2/15--so I can grade them over winter break. However, I am flexible, if we miss any more days due to snow, power or inclement weather, we will not have enough time to finish by the 15th for those who do not have internet access at home. You need to choose a subject that is controversial in which you have to choose a clear position. I am only allowing the counter argument to be presented in your concluding statements within a body paragraph or the first sentence in your concluding paragraph.
